It’s been a modern8 tradition for (seemingly) ever to design a t-shirt as our client holiday gift. This year we took it a step further. In the early 70s, Randall Smith, modern8 Creative Director, acquired a few letters of wood type in an unusually large size. The type hung as room décor in his home for many years. This holiday season, Randall created a typographic composition using the letters, and approached the Salt Lake City letterpress printer, The Mandate Press, about printing the design on their vintage presses. The poster was printed by Carl Carbonell, (the acclaimed Hatch Show Print pressman, recently relocated to Salt Lake City) in 2 colors on French Speckletone Cream stock. The edition was printed in a limited run of 300, and was signed by Randall. The posters were scanned to create the art for the matching t-shirt. Both are available for a nominal cost in our store.
